Founder's Note

Ask any car guy(or girl!) which vehicles they would recommend buying as a reliable daily driver, and you will most certainly get the two obvious choices.

We all know those two brands…

But what happens when those two obvious brand choices are no longer as trouble free as they used to be?

See, I’m the guy coworkers, family, and friends go to for car advice.

Like so many others, I too, would recommend vehicles from the brands most known for reliability.

But when I found out one of my recommendations turned out to be riddled with defects, I felt betrayed. 💔

How could a brand known for some of the most reliable vehicles on Earth be having these kind of problems. This was a brand new car by the way…

Out of curiosity, I started doing some research. What I found was eye opening. It appears new cars today seem to have more issues than those manufactured a decade ago. In fact, J.D. Powers vehicle dependability study which measures car problems experienced by original owners seems to support my findings.

And it’s not isolated to just a few brands, either.

Perhaps it’s because more components are outsourced. Or maybe it’s because of the integration of tech features.

Maybe both...

Whatever the reason, fact is, cars aren’t made like they used to be. This got me thinking….what if there was a way to collect the thousands of vehicle owner complaints across the web into something that could be used by car shoppers.

A tool that could help aid in avoiding model years plagued by problems or safety issues. This was the catalyst for Car IQ Report.

I’m no automotive industry insider. I build websites and tools for B2B companies

Why am I telling you this? Well, it’s because I’m not beholden to any vehicle brand.

I’m a guy that is into car stuff, and generally have a favorable opinion of all vehicle manufacturers. And I like to think I know a thing or two about what makes a car great.

I have built/modified one of my cars. It was featured in a major automotive magazine. I have competed in Autocross, and won many awards.

My daily driver is a 20 years old Acura TL, and has over 233,000 236,000 miles…with only basic maintenance ever needed. My goal is to hit 300,000 miles.

Drawing on my expertise in web development, data analysis, and my experience assisting lawyers in identifying car defects, combined with my deep knowledge of automobiles, I developed a tool designed to help even the least car-savvy individuals steer clear of potential lemons.

How does Car IQ Report make money?

We are not supported or affiliated with any major brands. We do not run Advertisements. We only make money when a customer such as yourself purchases access to the vehicle reliability reports platform. This keeps us independent, away from outside influence.

Any money made from this service is put right back into making this product as helpful as it can be.

Where does the data used in the reports come from?

We source our data direct from the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

We selected these two data sources because they are the same ones the U.S. government uses to determine when a particular make and model is in need of a recall. They are also used when an investigation is required by the NHTSA.

Just like Car IQ Report, the NHTSA and EPA are not beholden to any automotive brands either.

Car shopping doesn't have to be scary

For sure, there are some vehicles that aren't worth your money. Some are even safety risks. However, there are many great vehicles from every brand at any price point that will suit your needs.

I trust that Car IQ Report will help you find a vehicle that you not only love, but will be reliable for many years to come. 🚘
